It is the pure grace of Allah Ta’ala that He has made the religion of Islam our faith. It is this same religion that gives us a sense of direction and a mission to fulfill as the purpose of our lives. Like all missions, instructions are given, goals are aimed for and rewards or punishments are given out in lieu of the outcome. Thus is the course of our lives. The mission of our life is what Allah has revealed in the Qur’an,
“I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me.” adh-Dhariyat
